Home standby checklist
  • Installation is not included. Use a licensed electrician and, for the gas line, a licensed gas contractor, with local permits.
  • Register the unit with the manufacturer after installation; some brands shorten the warranty if you don’t.
  • Keep the paperwork: order confirmation, installer’s invoice and permit sign-off.
  • Follow the maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual.

Questions and answers

Answered by our team in Wilmington. Can’t find yours? Ask below.

Can I connect this generator to my house?
Only through a transfer switch or an interlock kit installed by a licensed electrician. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet: it can back-feed the utility line and endanger line workers. Connecting safely.
What can it run at the same time?
Use the What it can run planner above: tick your appliances and it checks both the running load and the start-up surge against this generator.
Does it ship with oil?
It depends on the manufacturer. If oil is included it is listed under What’s in the box; otherwise use the grade given in the owner’s manual before the first start.
Can I use it in the rain?
Not uncovered. Run it on a dry surface under an open, canopy-like cover, at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents, and never in a garage.
Is installation included?
No. A home standby generator needs a licensed electrician, a licensed gas contractor for the fuel line and local permits. Delivery to your curb or driveway is free.
How will it be delivered?
Free, by Expedited LTL freight to your curb or driveway, usually within 2–5 business days after it ships. It travels on a pallet. The carrier calls ahead to book a delivery window; please have help on hand to move it.
What if it arrives damaged?
Photograph it and email us within 48 hours of delivery. We replace or refund damaged items at no cost to you.
